4th Annual Film Feastival description:
The Durham-Chapel Hill Dietetic Association and Meredith College Master of Science in Nutrition Program, and Inter-Faith Food Shuttle are proud to present...

The 4th Annual Film Feastival -
Featuring Food Stamped, with guest panelist, filmmaker Yoav Potash; and a special display of The Hunger Project - A Portrait of Hunger in North Carolina, by photographer Donn Young.

At Meredith College, Jones Hall Auditorium
Sunday, March 25th from 7-9pm

In recognition of National Nutrition MonthTM,and the 2012 theme, "Get Your Plate in Shape," the fourth annual Film Feastival will take a closer look at the effort involved in creating balanced, healthy meals on a Food Stamp budget. Through a documentary viewing and thought-provoking discussion, Film Feastival participants will have the opportunity to examine food insecurity in NC, and consider ways to increase access to healthy, fresh, and local foods.

The Durham-Chapel Hill Dietetic Association has partnered with the Meredith College Master of Science in Nutrition Program, and the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle, to host the Film Feastival from 7:00-9:00pm on Sunday, March 25, 2012 in the Jones Auditorium on the Meredith campus. The goal of the Feastival is to help individuals, families, communities, policy makers and the media recognize the presence, and effects, of food deserts and food insecurity in the Triangle.  CEUs will be available to RDs and DTRs for this event.

The Feastival is a double feature event. The first feature is the film Food Stamped, produced and directed by Shira and Yoav Potash. "Food Stamped is an informative and humorous documentary film following a couple as they attempt to eat a healthy, well-balanced diet on a food stamp budget. Through their adventures they consult with members of U.S. Congress, food justice organizations, nutrition experts, and people living on food stamps to take a deep look at America’s broken food system."

The second feature is a thought-provoking discussion with the filmmaker of Food Stamped, Yoav Potash and NC professionals working to raise awareness, and decrease rates, of food insecurity.

The Reception:
Join us for the VIP reception preceding the film screening.  The reception will be held from 5:30-6:30 and will feature a delicious menu of recipes from the film and from local NC farms.  Attend a special address from Yoav Potash and participate in stimulating conversation on how to improve access to, and support for, healthy food choices on a Food Stamp budget in North Carolina.
